Signing of MoU to Strengthen Partnership in Supporting the Endowment Health Sector

Muscat, July 8 – ONA: The Athar Foundation for Health Endowment and Sohar Islamic Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to strengthen community partnerships aimed at developing the endowment-based health sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

The MoU aims to establish cooperation in developing the health sector through endowments, supporting sustainable health initiatives, and exchanging expertise between the Islamic banking sector and the endowment sector.

The agreement outlines collaboration in several key areas, including providing technical and logistical support for health endowment projects, promoting joint health initiatives, and offering specialized training programs for the Foundation’s staff.

It also includes a commitment from both parties to activate joint efforts through the formation of a regular follow-up team to oversee the implementation of agreed initiatives, while ensuring the protection of both parties’ rights through detailed agreements for each project.

The signing of the MoU comes as part of efforts to activate endowment partnerships in the health sector and to develop sustainable financing solutions that serve the community and contribute to the advancement of healthcare services in Oman.

The MoU was signed on behalf of Sohar Islamic Bank by Mr. Fahad bin Akbar Al Zadjali, Head of Islamic Banking, and on behalf of the Athar Foundation by Ms. Reem bint Nour bin Mohammed Al Zadjaliyah, a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Sohar Aluminium and Athar Foundation for Health Endowment Sign MoU to Support Health Projects

Muscat – June 18, 2025: Sohar Aluminium signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Athar Foundation for Health Endowment to unify efforts in supporting priority health initiatives and projects in the Sultanate of Oman. This partnership underscores both parties’ commitment to promoting the sustainability of health services and projects and contributing effectively to the development of the healthcare sector in Oman.
The MoU signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Health. It was signed on behalf of Sohar Aluminium by Mr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Nasser Al-Kharousi, General Manager of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs, and on behalf of the Athar Foundation by Mr. Ali bin Hassan Al-Lawati, Vice Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
The MoU aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the two parties by channeling donations and corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions to support sustainable health projects based on clear needs assessments and ensuring the optimal use of available resources in line with national healthcare priorities.
According to the MoU, the Athar Foundation and Sohar Aluminium will jointly evaluate requests submitted by various healthcare institutions based on precise criteria to determine needs and priorities. They will also oversee the implementation of approved projects and collaborate in conducting studies to assess their social impact and measure their effectiveness within Oman’s healthcare system.
Commenting on the agreement, Mr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Kharousi, General Manager of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs at Sohar Aluminium, emphasized that supporting the healthcare sector is one of the key areas of focus for the company within its social responsibility framework. He stated that this agreement reflects Sohar Aluminium’s commitment to sustainable development and strengthens its ongoing partnership with the Ministry of Health. He also noted that this partnership builds upon the company’s previous support for various health initiatives and projects across hospitals and healthcare institutions in several governorates in the Sultanate.

For his part, Mr. Hilal bin Hamad Al-Sarmi, Executive Director of the Athar Foundation, stated that this agreement aligns with the Foundation’s mission to support the national healthcare system through strategic partnerships with private sector institutions via their social investment projects. He added, “We believe that collaboration between healthcare institutions and the private sector is essential to ensure sustainable impact. This partnership with Sohar Aluminium serves as a successful model of directing resources toward real priorities that contribute to enhancing the quality of healthcare and services.”
It is worth noting that the Athar Foundation for Health Endowment is a non-profit organization that aims to support the healthcare sector in the Sultanate of Oman by improving long-term healthcare services through contributions and support. The Foundation’s goal is to help achieve integrated healthcare services and sustainable health development for the Omani community.

Bank Nizwa Signs MoU with ATHAR to Strengthen Strategic Partnership in the Health Endowment Sector

21 May, Muscat: In line with its ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable development initiatives with lasting social impact, Bank Nizwa, the leading and most trusted Islamic bank in the Sultanate of Oman, has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Health Endowment Foundation (ATHAR). This strategic partnership aims to enhance the role of the health endowment sector in promoting inclusive development, aligned with the national priorities outlined in Oman Vision 2040.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, by Mr. Khaled Al Kayed, Chief Executive Officer of Bank Nizwa, and Mr. Ahmad Abdullah Al Khanji, Chairman of the Executive Committee, Board Member of the ATHAR Foundation, in the presence of senior officials from both institutions.

The memorandum aims to strengthen institutional cooperation between the two parties, with Bank Nizwa providing logistical and technical support to the ATHAR Foundation in implementing its strategic and operational plans—particularly in the areas of endowment investment and the development of health-related projects with sustainable impact. The collaboration also includes capacity-building initiatives designed to enhance professional competencies, as well as promoting ATHAR’s financial services and activities through Bank Nizwa’s various communication channels. Under the agreement, ATHAR will maintain its primary banking relationship with Bank Nizwa and recognize the bank as its strategic partner across all relevant media platforms.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Khaled Al Kayed stated: “At Bank Nizwa, we firmly believe in leveraging our Islamic banking expertise to support endowment institutions that serve meaningful social objectives, especially in vital sectors like healthcare. For his part, Mr. Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Khanji emphasized that the MoU represents a strategic step towards developing an integrated health endowment model based on partnership and specialization. This partnership with Bank Nizwa will further strengthen our capabilities and expand our positive impact.”

The memorandum also provides for the formation of a joint working group to oversee the implementation of mutually agreed programs and projects, and to submit periodic reports to the senior management of both institutions. Additionally, it allows for the signing of separate executive agreements for any future initiatives.

The opening of the Al-Amerat Heights Health Complex project

This morning, with the participation of the #Endowment_Health_Foundation “Athar”, the opening of the Al-Amerat Heights Health Complex project in the Wilayat of #Amerat in the Governorate of #Muscat was opened at a cost of 750 thousand Omani riyals, which came as a donation from citizens as an endowment on behalf of their parents and under the supervision of the foundation.
